ExtendScript (.jsx files). This is the scripting engine Photoshop has shipped for many years, and it is what this guide uses. You run a .jsx file from File → Scripts → Browse…, and it executes inside Photoshop with full access to the open documents. ExtendScript is JavaScript, but an old dialect (roughly the 1999 standard).

The script asks for a source folder and an output folder, then opens every JPEG, TIFF, PSD and PNG in the source folder and applies five passes:
